Emergency medical issues can happen at any time and affect any part of your body, including your eyes. As an optometrist that puts patient care above all else, Stacy Turner, OD, at Eldorado Vision & Optical in McKinney, Texas, offers emergency eye care. If you have an eye-related health emergency, call Dr. Turner at 972-564-8400, even if it’s after office hours.
There are a number of issues that can occur in your eye that would warrant an emergency visit to Dr. Turner.
Emergency eye care conditions include:
Dr. Turner can handle many eye emergencies in her office during office hours. If you need emergency eye care when the office is closed, please go to the nearest Emergency Room. If you feel you need a specialist, UT Southwestern Medical Center has eye care specialists on call at their Emergency Room.
For chemicals or debris in your eye, wash your eyes with water as best you can to help remove as much of the irritant as possible. If you have an object embedded in your eye, Dr. Turner recommends that you leave it in your eye so it can be removed by a professional who may be able to prevent further damage. Keep your eye covered, but don’t rub it, and don’t put any ointments or medication in it unless directed by a doctor to do so.
Be ready to give an account of the events leading to the emergency. Take your glasses and/or contacts with you. You may need a driver if your eyes need to be dilated.
Dr. Turner or the eye care specialist will direct you to the appropriate doctor to continue the care needed.
