When would I need emergency care for an eye issue?

There are a number of issues that can occur in your eye that would warrant an emergency visit to Dr. Turner.

Emergency eye care conditions include:

  • Corneal or eyelid laceration
  • Broken orbital bone
  • Object in the eye
  • Chemicals in the eye
  • Inflamed iris

  • Eye pain
  • Visual disturbance
  • Sudden visual change

If you have concerns about eye health, but you’re not sure if it’s a true emergency, call Dr. Turner and she can help you figure out if you need to come to Eldorado Vision & Optical right away.

How can I protect my eye before I see the optometrist?

For chemicals or debris in your eye, wash your eyes with water as best you can to help remove as much of the irritant as possible. If you have an object embedded in your eye, Dr. Turner recommends that you leave it in your eye so it can be removed by a professional who may be able to prevent further damage.

Keep your eye covered, but don’t rub it, and don’t put any ointments or medication in it unless directed by Dr. Turner to do so.

What can I expect during an emergency eye care visit?

If you experience an eye emergency, call Dr. Turner at 972-564-8400 so she can determine if you need to come to Eldorado Vision & Optical right away. If she determines you need emergency eye care, she’ll ask you to come to the office, even if it’s after hours. If your eye condition isn’t urgent, she’ll schedule you for her first available appointment.

Once at the office, Dr. Turner will conduct a thorough examination of your eye and provide the appropriate treatment. Then, she’ll make recommendations for home care and schedule a follow-up visit to monitor your eye.

What if I need surgery or more specialized care?

Should Dr. Turner determine that you need more specialized care or surgery, she’ll refer you to the appropriate specialist.
