How often should I have an eye exam?

The doctors at Eldorado recommend you have a comprehensive eye health exam yearly. Getting your eyes checked every year not only helps them keep on top of how well you can see, but it also allows them to check for the presence of eye diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, and corneal diseases.

What can I expect during a comprehensive eye health exam?

A comprehensive inventory of your medical history and health concerns will be obtained. Additional tests will be performed to assess your eye health, such as:

Tonometer test

This test allows Dr. Turner and Dr. Abusaad to gauge the internal pressure of your eye and assess your risk for glaucoma.

Autorefractor / Auto-Keratometer test

The autorefractor measures the power of your eye to assist Dr. Turner and Dr. Abusaad in refining your refraction. The auto-keratometer measures the curvature of your cornea, which shows corneal diseases and dystrophy.

Visual fields test

This test measures your central and peripheral vision. This test measures your central and peripheral vision. It’s very useful when managing glaucoma and macular degeneration.

Retinal Photography / Optical coherence tomography (OCT)

Dr. Turner and Dr. Abusaad highly recommend retinal photography with Optomap®, which is an advanced tool they use to create an image of your eyes. They also find the Optomap image beneficial when comparing eye health from year to year.

OCT scan takes a digital cross-section image of your retinal layers.

What if I need glasses?

If Dr. Turner and Dr. Abusaad determine you need glasses, they will provide you with your glasses prescription that you may use in our in-house Optical Boutique or an optical store of your choice. Our experienced opticians can help you find a pair of glasses from our wide range of frames and lenses.

For contact lenses, Dr. Turner, Dr. Abusaad, and staff offer one-on-one training so you can successfully put in and take out your contacts before you leave the office.
