Dry Eye

What causes dry eyes?

You may experience dry eyes for a number of reasons. Some of the most common causes include:

  • Working on computers and other digital devices

  • Working in low-humidity environments

  • Wearing contact lenses

Hormonal changes, medication, and certain health conditions such as rosacea or autoimmune disorders may also lead to dry eyes.

How do I know if I have dry eyes?

Dry eyes cause a number of different symptoms that may indicate you need to schedule an appointment at Eldorado Vision & Optical with Dr. Turner or Dr. Abusaad.

Common symptoms of dry eyes include:

  • Dry, scratchy eyes

  • Itchy eyes

  • Watering eyes

  • Blurry vision

  • Burning eyes

  • Sensitivity to light

  • Eye fatigue

  • Painful, red eyes

If you have dry eyes, you may also experience a heavy eye discharge followed by eye dryness. While it may be normal to experience dry eyes from time to time, if your eyes are persistently dry, you should see us for an examination so we can assess your eye health and offer treatments to improve your symptoms and prevent complications.

How can I treat my dry eyes?

Treatment for dry eye disease will depend upon the cause and severity of your symptoms. In milder forms, dry eye treatment may involve the use of lubricating eye drops or dry eye medications.
