Dry Eye Management

Woman Rubbing Her Eyes

Many people suffer from burning, itching, sore, dry eyes. In fact, 48 percent of Americans over the age of 18 experience issues with dry, irritated eyes. Dr. Turner sees and treats patients who complain about this eye-related condition which is often caused by a lack of good quality tears bathing the surface of the eye. Seasonal allergies (especially in Texas), contact lenses, computer use, the environment in which you work or play, smoking, and medications all can contribute to dry eyes.

Mild cases of dry eyes caused by computer use, reading, schoolwork, and other situational causes may simply be treated by frequent use of artificial tears or other over-the-counter (OTC) lubricating eye drops. After Dr. Turner has evaluated your dry eye condition, she will recommend the most appropriate artificial tears, review how often they should be used, and the length of treatment. Patients are always directed to follow her instructions and are cautioned about mixing different types of eye drops to relieve this condition. Failure to follow Dr. Turner’s instructions will make it more difficult to evaluate the success of the treatment protocols.

Not every case of dry eyes is treated in the same manner. More severe cases may require treatment with a more aggressive, prescription medication. Dr. Turner will evaluate each patient who sees her with the eye condition and recommend the most appropriate treatment routines to produce the symptom-relief the patient desires.
