    LASIK Q & A

    What is LASIK?

LASIK is an FDA-approved surgical procedure that corrects vision by changing the shape of your cornea using a special laser. Dr. Turner isn’t an eye surgeon, and she can’t perform LASIK surgery at Eldorado Vision & Optical, but if you’re considering LASIK, she can talk to you about the procedure and refer you to the best surgeons in the area.

As an advocate for eye health, she also recommends you continue to see her for your annual comprehensive eye health exam following your surgery so she can track eye health and vision.

Am I a good candidate for LASIK?

Dr. Turner may be able to determine if you’re a good candidate for LASIK after a comprehensive eye health exam and discussion with you about your eye care needs and lifestyle.

If your vision issues are relatively new, Dr. Turner may recommend you wear eyeglasses or contact lenses for a year before getting LASIK surgery.

    What happens during LASIK surgery?

Your LASIK surgeon will provide you with all the information you need to know before you go in for surgery, so you’ll know what to expect and how to prepare. For the procedure, the surgeon will place a small cut in your cornea and use a laser light to remove corneal tissue to correct your vision. The procedure normally takes about 30 minutes.

After LASIK treatment, you may feel some eye discomfort, but this should disappear within a few days. Due to the visual changes following the procedure, you should arrange a ride home from the surgical office after your LASIK surgery.

How long is recovery from LASIK?

You should be able to return to many of your usual activities within three days of LASIK surgery, based on the post-op care recommended by your surgeon. After LASIK surgery, you should notice a significant improvement in your vision. Most patients report they have 20/20 vision following the procedure.

Is my vision permanently corrected after LASIK?

LASIK corrects the vision issue treated, whether it was for nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism. However, it won’t stop new vision issues from developing. That’s why it’s important to continue seeing Dr. Turner so you can stay on top of your eye health.
